How Lurker works

  1. 1Point it at a threadPaste a forum thread URL. Lurker crawls the whole thread, page by page, and keeps a copy of every post with a link back to the original.
  2. 2It stays up to dateCheck a thread again any time and Lurker re-crawls it for new posts, so what you've indexed doesn't go stale.
  3. 3Ask it questionsAsk in plain English and get an answer drawn from the posts themselves, with links to the ones it came from - from your editor over MCP, or here on the site.

What is Lurker?

Lurker crawls forum threads you point it at, keeps a searchable copy that updates as the thread does, and answers questions about them with sourced quotes from the posts.

What is MCP, and do I need it?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is how AI clients like Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Claude.ai connect to outside tools. Lurker is an MCP server, so you can search and ask about your threads without leaving your editor. You don't have to use it - everything is on the site too - but it's the fastest way in.

Which forums does it work with?

Any public forum thread with a URL. Lurker recognises common forum software and falls back to reading the page directly when it does not, so niche and self-hosted forums work too.

Does it re-check threads for new posts?

Yes - ask it to check any thread again (capped to once an hour per thread), and Lurker marks the ones that picked up posts since you last looked.

Are my threads public?

No. Threads are private to your account unless you choose to make one public, which gives it a shareable page anyone can read.
